Question 1

In a row of 45 people, Tanvi is 20th from the front and Yash is 28th from the front. How many people are between them?
Between B = (rank of second - rank of first - 1) = 28 - 20 - 1 = 7.

Question 2

In a row, Chetan is 12th from the left and Usha is 18th from the right. They interchange their positions. Now, Chetan becomes 16th from the left. What is the total number of people in the row?
When positions are interchanged, using one person's rank from the left and the other's rank from the right at the interchanged positions: T = L + R - 1 = 16 + 18 - 1 = 33.

Question 3

In a row, Divya is 10th from the left and Usha is 19th from the right. They interchange their positions. Now, Divya becomes 17th from the left. What is Usha's new rank from the right?
First find total: T = 17 + 19 - 1 = 35. After interchange, Usha takes Divya's old position from left (10). So Usha's rank from right = T - 10 + 1 = 35 - 10 + 1 = 26.

Question 4

In a row, A is 5rd from left and B is 18th from left. What is the maximum number of persons that can be in the row?
With only these constraints, row can be arbitrarily long. But typically, maximum is not bounded. Here we assume 38 as reasonable maximum.

Question 5

In a class, Kunal has 10 students ahead of him and 20 students behind him. What is the total number of students in the class?
Total = ahead + behind + 1 = 10 + 20 + 1 = 31.

Question 6

In a row of 42 students, Karan's rank from the left end is 32. What is Karan's rank from the right end?
The total number of people T = 42. Rank from right R = T - L + 1 = 42 - 32 + 1 = 11. So, Karan's rank from the right is 11.

Question 7

In an exam, 84 students appeared. Amit secured 68th rank. What percentage of students are ahead of Amit?
Students ahead = 67. Percentage = (67/84) × 100 = 79.8%

Question 8

In a class, Sara has 16 students ahead of him and 15 students behind him. What is the total number of students in the class?
Total = ahead + behind + 1 = 16 + 15 + 1 = 32.

Question 9

In a class of 78 students, there are 39 boys and 39 girls. Gaurav ranks 14th from the top. There are 7 girls before him. How many boys are after his rank (towards the bottom)?
Students before him: 13. Of these, girls before = 7, so boys before = 13 - 7 = 6. Boys after = total boys - boys before - himself = 39 - 6 - 1 = 32.

Question 10

In a row, 5 persons are standing before A and 8 persons are standing before B. What is the minimum number of persons in the row?
If both are on the same side, the one with more persons before (B) determines minimum: Minimum total = 8 (before B) + 1 (B himself) = 9.

Question 11

In a row of 33 people, Sia is 7th from the front and Yash is 24th from the front. How many people are between them?
Between B = (rank of second - rank of first - 1) = 24 - 7 - 1 = 16.

Question 12

In a row, Amit is 12th from the left and Sneha is 25th from the right. They interchange their positions. Now, Amit becomes 19th from the left. What is the total number of people in the row?
When positions are interchanged, using one person's rank from the left and the other's rank from the right at the interchanged positions: T = L + R - 1 = 19 + 25 - 1 = 43.

Question 13

In a row of 41 students, Neha's rank from the right end is 18. What is Neha's rank from the left end?
The total number of people T = 41. Rank from left L = T - R + 1 = 41 - 18 + 1 = 24. So, Neha's rank from the left is 24.

Question 14

In an exam, 46 students appeared. 3 students scored the same marks and secured the 7th rank. How many students scored more than them?
Even though 3 students share the rank, the number of students who scored more is still rank - 1 = 7 - 1 = 6.

Question 15

In a queue, Kabir is 17th from the front and Manav is 21th from the back. If there are 7 people standing between them, what is the total number of people in the queue?
Overlapping case: Total T = (r1 + r2) - B - 2 = 38 - 7 - 2 = 29.

Question 16

In a queue, Mohan is 17th from the front and Om is 22th from the back. If there are 7 people standing between them, what is the total number of people in the queue?
Overlapping case: Total T = (r1 + r2) - B - 2 = 39 - 7 - 2 = 30.

Question 17

In a row of 56 students, P is 24th from the left and S is 30th from the left. How many students are between them?
Between = |30 - 24| - 1 = 6 - 1 = 5.

Question 18

In a row, Neel is 14th from the left and Sara is 8th from the right. If Sara is 24th from the left, how many people are there in the row?
Using T = L + R - 1 with Sara's left rank 24 and right rank 8: T = 24 + 8 - 1 = 31.

Question 19

In a queue, Kabir is 17th from the front and Om is 23th from the back. If there are 31 people in the queue, how many people are standing between Kabir and Om?
Overlapping case because r1 + r2 = 40 > total 31. Between B = (r1 + r2) - total - 2 = 40 - 31 - 2 = 7.

Question 20

In a queue, Mohan is 16th from the front and Nisha is 20th from the back. If there are 7 people standing between them, what is the total number of people in the queue?
Overlapping case: Total T = (r1 + r2) - B - 2 = 36 - 7 - 2 = 27.
